Kazakhstan Implements New Licensing Requirement for Freon-Containing Imports

The Kazakhstan government has issued a new notification at its border crossings, effective from May 7, requiring all imports of products containing Freon, a commonly used refrigerant, to provide an import license for the refrigerant. This measure aims to enhance environmental protection and ensure compliance with international regulations on hazardous chemicals.

According to the notification, any shipment entering or transiting through Kazakhstan that contains Freon must be accompanied by the necessary import license. The license must be obtained from the relevant authorities in Kazakhstan and will be subject to strict scrutiny to ensure that the refrigerant is being imported for legitimate and environmentally responsible purposes.

For products that do not contain Freon, importers are required to provide a declaration letter stating that the goods are free of Freon. This letter must be prepared prior to the shipment's arrival at the border and should be presented to customs officials upon inspection.

The introduction of this new licensing requirement is a significant step towards protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development in Kazakhstan.
